Slowest lamborghini

Two artists, Benedict Radcliffe and Ben Wilson, created a fully functional, pedal
powered, wire frame lamborghini for the first UK art car parade.



This is the slowest lamborghini car I ever knew. It can probably go 5 - 10 km per hour??

Car digital keys are hackable

Well... Nothing is 100% secure.... Not even our cars' security systems...
Even if you have secure anti-theft digital key systems in your car, don't be surprised that people can steal it in a few seconds!! They don't even need to break your car's window and do the wires thing (as seen in movies).
All they need to do is sniffing the communication between the digital key and the car, encoding the key to a chip in a remote device, using the remove device to open the car, and driving the car as if he/she is the car owner.

Researchers Crack KeeLoq Code for Car Keys

A group of Israeli and Belgian researchers found a vulnerability in the algorithm that is used to secure anti-theft digital key systems in numerous vehicles, including those made by such companies as Honda, Ford, General Motors, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar. With that information they were able to devise an attack to crack the code of anti-theft keys.

With just an hour of remote access to the digital key of one car made by a manufacturer, the researchers say they are able not only to crack the unique code for that specific key but can also determine the key initialization process used to code the digital keys for all of the cars made by that manufacturer. From there, it's pretty simple for them to crack the unique code of another car made by that company.

"There is one master key from which is derived the key for each car a company makes," says Orr Dunkelman, a researcher from the University of Leuven in Belgium who worked on the project with four colleagues.

The cipher the researchers examined, known as KeeLoq, is used to lock and unlock many vehicles that employ remote-control key-less systems and digital key systems -- key fobs and keys that are embedded with a chip that transmits a unique digital code. The devices not only lock and unlock car doors but can also mobilize or immobilize a vehicle and operate its alarm system.

The KeeLoq technology, which is licensed by Microchip Technology to car makers and other entities, has long been considered to be pretty secure. Each KeeLoq key or key fob uses a unique value, out of billions and billions of possibilities, to unlock a car.

But after proprietary information about KeeLoq was leaked to a Russian hacking web site (pdf) last year, the five researchers, from the University of Leuven as well as the Hebrew University and the Technion in Israel, began examining the system for vulnerabilities. Within three to five days Dunkelman says they developed their first basic attack, then spent months refining their technique.

The attack involves probing a digital key wirelessly by sending 65,000 challenge/response queries to it. Once the researchers collect 65,000 responses – which takes about an hour – they use software they designed to decipher that key's unique code. The deciphering currently takes about a day using a dedicated computer. But once they've cracked one key, they know 36 bits of the 64 bits they need to know. Those 36 bits are identical for every car model a manufacturer makes (different car models will vary only slightly).

This doesn't mean Dunkelman can just walk onto a parking lot and open any car that's the same model of the one he cracked. He still needs to crack the unique key used to open the other cars. But because he already knows the 36 bits that are common to all of the keys for one model of car, it takes only a few seconds to crack those other keys. He can do this by reading the keys wirelessly -- for example, while sitting next to a patron at a restaurant or standing near a car when an owner opens it and sniffing the communication between the digital key and the car. Once he has a key's unique code, he can encode it to a chip in a remote device (which he can do in a couple of seconds in the field) and use it to open and steal the car.

Dunkelman says an ideal scenario might be for a valet attendant to sniff the keys of cars in his charge to obtain the 36 bits for several different makes and models.

"If you go to a restaurant and leave your car with valet parking, the parking guy can probe your key while you're eating and enjoying your steak and by the time you leave he has all the information he needs," says Dunkelman.

Last week Dunkelman and his colleagues contacted Microchip Technology to report their findings. They also discussed the findings at the Crypto conference. But they say they won't release their research paper publicly until after they've heard from Microchip.

A spokeswoman for Microchip declined to comment on the researcher's findings.

Vote for the worst street in Ontario

CAA's annual "worst roads" campaign asks people to report the worst roads in Ontario by voting at http://www.worstroads.ca.

As of today, the top 20 worst roads are:

I think there is a problem with the form. Since the street name is a free text field, voters can enter any name. As a result, duplicate entries exist. For example, #1 #13, and #18 are refering to the same street "Dufferin". #5, #8, and #9 are refering to the same street "Steeles".

Anyway, what is worst than not fixing those roads with potholes and raised manhole covers??

Well, the government takes forever to fix the road causing traffic jams and accidents. For example, the government has been trying to fix the intersection of Leslie and Sheppard. Just a small part took them the whole summer. And, it is still not fixed yet. I drive by that intersection every other week during business hours, but I never see any workers working there. Lanes have been blocked off causing traffic jams. The new road lines are so confusing that I am surprise I haven't seen any car acident yet.

I guess the government needs to learn how to be efficient first!!

British Race Car made from plants

The British Race car "Eco One" was designed by Dr Kerry Kirwan, a researcher at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), and built by student Ben Wood over two months at a cost of £20,000 (approx. Cdn $43,177).

This car has been built using plants:
- the tyres are made of potatoes
- the brake pads are from ground cashew shells.
- the body is created from hemp and rapeseed oil
- it runs on fuel made from fermented wheat and sugar beet

Eco One is 95% biodegradable or recyclable, although its steering-wheel, seat and electrics comprise conventional materials. All the plastic components are made from plants. The chassis has to be made from steel for strength, but steel is a very recyclable material.

Powered by the engine from a Triumph Daytona motor-cycle, Eco One is capable of 150mph and does 0-62mph in under four seconds.

It will be on display at the National Science Museum in London from August 28 to 30.

Driver's Ten Commandments

To me, there is only one set of Ten Commandments... the Ten Commandments written in Bible!! However, it is interesting to look at the Driver's Ten Commandments...

The Vatican has issued a 36-page document called "Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road" containing 10 Commandments covering everything from road rage, respecting pedestrians, keeping a car in good shape and avoiding rude gestures while behind the wheel. The document is intended for bishops conferences around the world.

Here are the "Drivers' Ten Commandments":
  1. You shall not kill.
  2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.
  3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.
  4. Be charitable and help your neighbour in need, especially victims of accidents.
  5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.
  6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.
  7. Support the families of accident victims.
  8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.
  9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.
  10. Feel responsible toward others.
The document also urge people to pray while behind the wheel.

Well... I hope the bishops/pastors are not praying while driving... They should keep their focus on the road... It would be dangerous to think about other things while driving!! This is sort of like talking on your cellphone while driving... May be one more Commandment should be added that drivers can only pray while the car is stopping at red lights!!

Is it a dolphin? Is it a missile? No, it's Acabian GTBO!!

I want a Acabion GTBO!! Well... May be I'll buy one in my dream tonight... Too bad... I can't afford it in real life... It costs £130,000, which is approx. Cdn $273,656!!


The dolphin-shaped Acabion GTBO can hit a top speed of 342 miles per hour or 550 km/h at 55% throttle, 120 mph to 180 mph in 6 seconds. It weighs a mere 360kg, and has a drag coefficient of just 0.125. It's powered by a highly modified and turbocharged 1,400cc, 4cyl Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle engine, producing either 550 or 700 horsepower.

Accelerating from 0-224mph in 20 seconds, it will leave any Ferrari standing.

At a steady 62mph, an Acabion can travel almost 1,500 miles on one 90-litre tankful.


Acabion GTBO vs Bugatti Veyron
Even though this Swiss car can hit 342mph, its top speed is limited to 292mph, which is still quicker than the world's current fastest road car, the 253mph Bugatti Veyron. The Bugatti Veyron takes 25 seconds to accelerate from 251mph to its top speed of 253mph, and at those speeds, its tires are finished within 30 minutes. Not that that's a particular issue because it will have run out of fuel some 10 minutes earlier. The two-seat Acabion GTBO accelerates from 249mph to 342mph in the same 25 seconds, and after three hours at 267mph, it will still have fuel left, and its tires will last for days.


Super Turtle
According to its engineer Dr Peter Maskus, "It burns seven to 10 times less gasoline, and hence produces seven to 10 times less carbon dioxide, and at a day-to-day 70mph, it burns almost nothing. To build a supercar that is super-wide is not understanding physics at all, and certainly not bionics. In nature, everything that is fast – horses, sharks, falcons and cheetahs – is lean. There's no Ferrari or Bugatti design in nature, except the turtle, but even the turtle is round. Put a 1,000hp engine into a turtle, and it would run fast, but it would be idiotic."


Around 26 will be built over the next four years, each with a £130,000, 26-speaker hi-fi.

My handsome son!

My son just took an expensive bath ($85).
You don't know that I have a son?? Well... That's because my car is my son!

The inside of my car was very dirty, because I haven't washed him for at least 2 years.
Now, he is very clean and handsome too!
Even I am afraid to sit in it since he is so clean.
Next time when people ask me for a ride, I'll need to check their shoes first... If shoes are dirty, I'll just give each of them a TTC token... hahahaha...

Well... I still have to take him to garage later for external wax polish... but it's the inside that matters... He has inside beauty! Hee hee...

My son also changes clothes too. He now has summer clothes (tires )!

Buick Riviera

GM unveiled its futuristic Buick Riviera Concept at the Shanghai Motor Show this past week.



This is the first time that I think a GM car looks nice & cool!
I especially like the door... It has the same type of door as the car in Back to the Future.
I wonder how much this car costs...
May be it's time for me to get a new car... hahahahaha....

昨晚同班 friends 去 Go For Tea 飲嘢... 走的時侯... 在 parking lot 見到一架白色 porsche 跑車... wow... 好型!! 超正!!
第一次在 public 地方見到靚車 (可能平時無留意...) :P
我班 friends 當然爭住話架靚車係佢地㗎啦... 哈哈哈哈哈...

Ferrari 599 GTB

The Ferrari 599 GTB is first displayed worldwide at Geneva Motor Show. It has V12 engine and 620 hp. Nice car!!! :) This one will definitely enter my dream car list... hahahahahaha.... :D

Canadian International Autoshow

I went to the Autoshow last Saturday. This was my first time going to the Canadian International Autoshow. Overall... It was great!! :)
It would be excellent if we could actually sit inside those Lamborghini and Ferrari cars instead of just looking at them on stage. :(


The concept cars in the show were very ugly. They looked like a sweet chinese bun with 4 wheels.

Anyway, I did found a new car to add to my list of dream cars!! ;) The Volvo C70 was beautiful!! It had a three-piece retractable hardtop..... It looked like a sporty coupe with the top up.... It looked like a convertible with the top stowed below the rear deck.... and.... It's only 58K!!! It's not as expensive as my other dream cars (i.e. Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster).... hee hee....
